Register Weblogs at the Dewan Rakyat
BLOGGERS using locally hosted websites may be asked to register with the authorities, Deputy Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said.
He said registration was one of the measures the Government was considering to prevent the spread of negative or malicious content on the Internet.
Shaziman said this while winding up the debate on the motion of thanks on the Royal Address for his ministry.
He added that the ministry did not have any problem with bloggers who identified themselves, and he welcomed blogging activities.
However, he said there were about 50,000 websites registered under the .my suffix and there were a lot of avenues for anyone to host websites with malicious content which could harm the country’s security… – full report here Bloggers may have to register
Wait… wait…wait for it…. HAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Now that this is off his chest, Serge got the news from 4896 and ChewXY. Many thanks for pinging Petaling Street for this, entertaining news.
For those who does not understand, let Serge put it in a simple manner in which the subliminal message is
Government wants control of Blog Contents from Malaysian blogs that is Malaysian hosted, so that GOOD WORDS of Malaysia comes out from them only
Well this reminds Serge of the time when the government ask all prepaid user to register their line and that was something commendable. However this is insane and far from being smart. To control content ? To control what bloggers have to say is in fact a disgrace. People all around the world deserves to know the facts and the figures of what happens in a country.
It looks like the government is trying to toss flowers into the air, spray the air with some awesome parfum and pheremones so that foreign investors will not notice the pariah
side of Malaysia. Of course for the first few times it’s ok but later on people will notice. There was this ancient proverb that states “A man who doesn’t smile in the heart but smiles in the face, is never to be trusted” or something like that.
This is what Serge sees here. Serge sees the government shaking hands to all bloggers, buying them drinks and food and at the same time having a gun at their temple while whispering “say good things about Malaysia or we will do what is necessary”. NICE…Really…
Now let’s see if this comes to pass. Hmm let’s see.. Serge lives in Malaysia, his hosting company is in Malaysia but the physical host/server is in USA. HAH! Come and get him
