Supernatural S4E10 – Heaven and Hell

This begins the final two-parter of which Dean and Sam is trying their best to protect a girl who can tune in to Angel Radio. A recap of episode 9 begins with Dean and Sam being told by Ruby that Alastair a demon is looking for Anna, who is out damsel-in-distress. At the end of episode 9, the angels comprising of Uriel and Castiel demanded the two brothers to give up Anna whom they want to kill for it was an order from The Father, their God.

Face with a moral dilemma, Sam and Dean challenged Uriel and Castiel to a battle but lost. As Uriel and Castiel had no orders from God to kill the Winchesters they were allowed to live. Leaving the unconscious brothers, Castiel moved to where Anna was hiding before he and Uriel was hit and somehow banished from the room. The recovered brothers and Ruby went into the room to see Anna bleeding from her arms and the mirror in front of her was a blood symbol, of which she did not know what it was but she knew what it would do.

With both factions wanting Anna, the demons wants to use her skills and the angels wants to kill her; she is brought to Bobby’s place for protection by the brothers. Bobby was out for a hunt during that time. Leaving Anna in the demon protected panic room, Sam and Dean begins to investigate about Anna and her pass. Of which something happen when she was 2 years old.

Later they bring in Pamela (from Lazarus Rising) to perform a hypnosis on Anna, as Anna would like to know why all of this is happening and why the angels wanted her dead. Pamela began the process and after all is said and done, which includes Dean being flung and sparks flying across the room; Anna realizes why.

Anna was an Angel until she fell. Because of her disobedience it is the reason why God commanded Castiel and Uriel to kill her. Knowing where things are headed, Anna seeks help from the brothers to search for her grace. Grace being the essence of which gives angels their power. While researching, Ruby tells Sam that he needs to do what is needed to defeat Alastair, but he refuses.

Before leaving, Dean chatted with Anna and ask her why she purposely fell to earth where humanity is at its very worst. Only to be told back by Anna that it is the imperfections of the humans which makes it all worth while for her, love,friendship, sex and not be stuck in eternal obedience to her father of which she has never even seen his face. She states only four angels out of the many thousands had seen the face of God (which should be Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, Uriel).

At the place of where Anna’s grace fell is a tree that appeared only a few months ago but the size of it looks as though it was there for over a thousand years. Misfortunes occur as the grace is no more but taken away, leaving only residual traces. Back in their hiding place, Anna picks up gossip from angel territory, of which something bad is about to happen. Dean will be put back into hell if he does not give Anna to the angels.

While looking for answers, Dean is approached by Anna who thanks him for doing what he is doing and at the same time reveals to him that she knew what had happen to Dean during his time in hell. She ask him to forgive himself when he is able to and in the following scene we have a non-nude sex scene. Of which Serge laughed his head off, for those who remembered episode 9; Sam had sex with Ruby who is a demon and now in this episode, we have Dean having sex with Anna who is an angel (minus her grace).

Not wanting the brothers to die, Ruby tries to deal with Alastair by giving him Anna. She is given a counter-offer by Alastair. In a dream sequence, Dean is visited by Uriel who wants him to give Anna up. Dean then states that he does not need to as Anna has found her grace and is back. Uriel laughs and reveals to him that he has Anna’s grace. Not wanting her to die, Dean is willing to go to hell. Uriel does not send him to hell but states something about him breaking if he(Uriel) just did something.

At an unstated location, we see Alastair torturing Ruby who is strapped naked onto a machine. Using the demon killing knife, he slowly slits her. At the end of it all, Ruby states that she will take him to where Anna is.

The angel arrives at where Sam, Dean and Anna was hiding. Sam is perplexed by how they knew and he looked at Dean. Revelations begin as Dean was given a choice of giving up Anna or having Sam die, he chose the latter. Anna understood and ask Castiel and Uriel to kill her fast. Just before angelic death occurs, Alastair comes into the fray demanding for Anna.

Sanctimonious Fanatical Pricks and the Pus and Sore began fighting each other. Uriel took the lesser demon while Castiel went on to challenge Alastair. Tried as he might, Castiel could not banish Alastair. Main reason could be that Alastair is one of the higher demons and Castiel was not in the angelic ranks which can challenge higher demons. Alastair then proceeded to chant a mantra that could kill angels before being hit by Dean.

Just after banishing the last lesser demon, Anna steals the vial which contained her grace from Uriel and began to absorb it back. After absorbing the grace, she turned into a bright light and disappears while taking out Alistair at the same time.

At the end of this episode, Dean confides with Sam that his four months in hell was actually forty years; time moves differently. During the first thirty years, he told Alistair to fuck off as he will not go and torture other souls. But at the last ten years, he broke and got off the rack and began to torture countless numbers of soul.
