Say “No” to turtle eggs campaign

say-no-to-turtle-eggs-campaign

Pelf recently wrote about the Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Group’s year-long campaign to encourage members of the Malaysian public NOT to eat turtle and terrapin eggs. Her Advisor, Professor Chan Eng Heng from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu launched the campaign in February 2008, and she hoped to collect 1 million signatures at the end of February 2009 so that those signatures could be submitted to the Terengganu State Government meeting next year.

Pelf is not too sure how many signatures have been collected so far but she is sure of is that we are no where near 1 million signatures yet. Hence, She would like to appeal to you readers of the Broken Mirror to help us reach a wider audience.

But why are we doing this, you ask? Turtle eggs are still being sold in the markets in Terengganu because the sale of those eggs is legal. Only the eggs of leatherback turtles are protected from sale and consumption, but we all know that the leatherback turtle in Malaysia is effectively extinct. But what about other turtle species? Do we wait until the other remaining turtle species become virtually extinct before we talk about saving their eggs? From this campaign, Pelf hopes to collect and submit 1 million signatures to the state government so that the eggs of ALL species of turtles will be protected.

Following is a list of blog posts that you may extract information from:

# Say No to turtle and terrapin eggs
# Be our Turtle Ambassador
# Campaign gains momentum
# Soon-to-be-extinct bum-breathing turtle (with notes on the campaign)

Attached with this post is the poster that is being used by the resort operators who has pledged their efforts.

Legends of Rights

And so the closing ceremony of the 2008 Olympics has come to an end. For the time being, Serge did not find the closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics to be epic as the opening ceremony. Yet, he must not say that as the unepicness is caused by the supreme stupidity called Astro.

Some might have read about what they did, if there wasn’t that many adverts slot in; maybe just maybe.. the ceremony would have been epic. The ceremony began at 8pm and normal terrestrial television such as TV1, TV2 and TV3 were screening the god damn news. DUDE!, it’s the olympics … it happens every 4 years. You could at least have a news ticker at the bottom while broadcasting the closing ceremony

But no, they did not. It seems that the Permatang Pauh by-election is much more epic than the Olympics. Malaysians’ really do have their priorities in a jumbled knickers. Just like how there’s the stupid quota for the UiTM thingy. Oh sure, the Brits gave them those rights before independence, that is suppose to help them but looking at how they have abused it; those rights should have been abolished a long time ago.

Serge would like to comment on the fact that if one looks at it properly, those people with that privileged rights has becomes so accustomed by it that they are mentally handicapped by it. Looking at that situation, it’ll be great for awesome people to move out of this country.

At least everyone is treated equal. Screw you, Malaysia.

Where do we begin ?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Where do we begin from here old friend of ours ?
Did you see it all from up above?
I can’t help but shiver here in my seat,
Looking up above to you dear friend,
You looking upon us, ever smiling never fading,
The tears are now no more, You like it don’t you ?
All of us not crying anymore,
A year has passed since the last teardrop,
Twenty Seven you could be, now never be
Our hearts beat today in unison,
Where do we begin bosom friend ?
I can feel you,
oh! How we long to see you smile and hear your voice,
It’s all gone now, yet never forgotten that voice,
Your voice, speaks with a resounding charitable truth,
You ain’t there. You do not sleep,
Thou art a thousand winds that blow,
Thou art the diamond glints on snow,
Thou art the sunlight on ripened grain,
Thou art the gentle autumn rain,
Ye awaken in the morning’s hush,
Thou art the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
Thou art the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at thy grave and cry thou said
Thou art not there. Death did not take you,
Death can never take you,
With life and life to the fullest you were given,
On this land, you walk no more,
But you, dearest friend till the end of time,
You our dearest and most beloved friend,
You walk with us in our hearts for evermore.

On this beautiful day we celebrate the 27th birthday of Bernard Foo, who pass away last year a day after his birth date. We love you Bernard.

RC Deaf Missions

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

RC Deaf Missions, was set up by 2 siblings - Mario and Agnes - who have journeyed several years with the Deaf community.

With over 16 years of active involvement in Deaf community work, Agnes decided to concertize her commitment to the development of Deaf persons and Deaf advocacy rights.

Together with Mario her brother, she registered RC Deaf Missions (the Mission). This way, Agnes knew that she could take her commitment to further heights and reach out to Deaf people from various walks of life, regardless of religion.

When Mario and Agnes set up the Mission, it was with a two-fold vision ie to make a difference in the lives of Deaf persons, and to be a successful service industry with Deaf impact.

Serge was at Amcorp Mall in the afternoon today as he stumbled towards Curryegg who was helping out. She and her mates were selling Deepavali and Eid-Fitr cards which is made from recycled paper and the art drawn by those who are hearing impaired.
