Where do we begin in this asshattery ? For Serge’s companions who does not know, Malaysia’s National Fatwa Council has issued a fatwā (Arabic: فتوى‎; plural fatāwā Arabic: فتاوى‎) stating that Yoga is prohibited by the Muslims to practice. Its chairman Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor Husin stated that this ancient form of exercise which has been practiced for over thousands of years, incorporates physical and religious elements as well as chants and worshiping, aimed to “be one with God”.–source The Star

Serge believes he should begin by stating that he does not practise Islam and therefore is not a Muslim, but with the amount of Muslim friends which he has gathered through the years has him some what familiar with this particular religion. So should he begin this rantage of stupidity of what has happen ? Sure, with guns blazing and grenades being tossed; he will begin on how this fatwa should not even come out at all.

A fatwa according to wikipedia is a religious opinion on Islamic law issued by an Islamic scholar. In Sunni Islam any fatwa is non-binding, whereas in Shia Islam it could be, depending on the status of the scholar and according to the usul al-fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), the fatwa must meet the following conditions in order to be valid:

1. The fatwa is in line with relevant legal proofs, deduced from Qur’anic verses and hadiths; provided the ahadith was not later abrogated by Muhammad.
2. It is issued by a person (or a board) having due knowledge and sincerity of heart;
3. It is free from individual opportunism, and not depending on political servitude;
4. It is adequate with the needs of the contemporary world.

Hmm, Serge cannot comment about this but he will have to say that this is quite shocking really. The National Fatwa Council in recent weeks has placed a fatwa on muslim females from dressing or behaving like men and engaging in lesbian sex, saying it was forbidden by the religion. Now being religiously just, banning lesbian sex is acceptable but on dressing like a man ?

Oh for the love of the Prophets, what the fuck are they thinking ? For those born in 80’s, do you guys and gals remember the Malaysian TV comedy 2+1 and Jangan Ketawa which was shown by TV3 in the early 1990’s ? If you do, you will remember this pair of lovely Mak Nyah who are Muslim Men acting as women. Therefore Serge will again say WHAT THE FUCK ?

Coming back to the Yoga ban and no he did not deviate as both this clothing ban and yoga ban is some what interrelated with each other. How on earth did this happen ? as what a friend of Serge stated with what had happen, “Stupid” and “next we can’t join Olympics because it was originally dedicated to Zeus“. Banning Yoga because it will deviate you to another religion, is something that is usually said by a person who does not even have a firm foundation of his or her religion.

Let us take Serge’s religion of Catholic-Christianity as an example. In his religion he believes in God, who is 3-in-1. Something like your coffee mix which has coffee,milk and sugar packed into a container. You can split them up, but it taste better mixed. Anyway, in his religion he has a segment of prayers known as the Rosary. A form of prayer dedicated to the Virgin Mary whom the Son of God is born from.

Now, the Rosary was never part of the Catholic-Christianity in the early years of the religion but only came in maybe about a few century later. Has anyone who has participated in this form of prayer, deviated in thinking that the more important religious figure is the Virgin Mary and not God ? Please, don’t even fuck around. Those who did are those who did not have a firm foundation in their religion.

Let us take this concept and put it into today’s posting. Let’s say that Serge is a Muslim and his faith is a strong as steel. What will be the chances of him fading and deviating if he practice Yoga? Next to nothing. As MarinaM stated in her article,

“I’m just waiting for the National Fatwa Council to come out with fatwas against corruption, violence against women, cheating etc. Instead they have these.

Do they know anything about yoga or is this a classic case of reacting out of fear and ignorance? Yoga may have spiritual roots but most of us do it for the exercise, both for the mind and body. It helps you to focus and in fact helps you to focus when you do your prayers. The one thing it does not do is make you want to beat up anyone, call people nasty names or issue fatwas on things you don’t understand.”

Serge would also add that, Datin Suleiha Merican, a 56-year-old Muslim yoga teacher at Maya Yoga in Singapore was aghast at the latest Fatwa news. When Datin said “When we are strong in our faith, why would we want to deviate? The professor’s [Zakaria Stapa's] statement is totally uncalled for” , Serge points to his points above and repeats by stating that with firm foundation in one’s own religion will not cause one to deviate.

While reading the article in YogaDork, he will also admit that he did not know that there are other Muslim countries that practice yoga… such as Iran, Saudi Arabia.

Somehow Serge agrees with this person when she stated,

“If this is the line of thinking that they are going along, then maybe they’ll start issuing fatwas on Tai Chi as well, since Tai Chi has it’s roots in Chinese Qi Gong and all that.”

To add to this statement, why not issue a fatwa on all Muslim men and women not to befriend Malaysian Chinese who eats pork which is haram ? If this ever happens and somehow the chances of this happening is too damn bloody high, Serge and his fellow brothers of every religion is going to pack our fucking backs and jet out of here.

Not to mention, when this happens Malaysia’s economy will go down the drain faster than your shit comes out your ass when you have diarrhea.
