Google Chrome - New Browser on the Block

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

For those reading Lifehacker IE 8 is currently available in beta and about a month or so ago our foxy friends at Mozilla launched Firefox 3. We all know what happened when Firefox 3 was launch, the number of IE users dropped and Bill Gates tried to BSOD more people.

Google has joined the fray and will be launching their very own browser called Google Chrome. A simplistic browser that is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go. Or so the developers of Chrome has stated. Google Chrome was not suppose to be revealed yet, however someone in Google was a bit trigger happy as they explained it on their own blog.

At Google, we have a saying: “launch early and iterate.” While this approach is usually limited to our engineers, it apparently applies to our mailroom as well! As you may have read in the blogosphere, we hit “send” a bit early on a comic book introducing our new open source browser, Google Chrome. As we believe in access to information for everyone, we’ve now made the comic publicly available — you can find it here. We will be launching the beta version of Google Chrome tomorrow in more than 100 countries.

A Fresh Take on Browsers : Official Google Blog

Serge was not able to gather any leaked application of Google Chrome, yet from the videos and images he has seen across the bloggersphere… this might be a Firefox killer. Features of Chrome which seems impressive are :

Smarter memory management. A sophisticated approach to data storage across time and tabs will keep the browser in top shape.

Crash-free app browsing. Applications will be partitioned in the browser so if one crashes, it won’t crash your whole browser.

Tabs on the top. Instead of tabs being displayed below your address bar, inside the browser - they’ll ride on top of each browser window. We’ll see what this is like for the user, we do wonder.

Quick navigation. Your most frequently visited pages will be available in a point and click navigation, like Opera’s Quick Dial.

OpenID sign in…Google released an application for the platform that essentially makes Google an OpenID Provider as per Steven Osborn

With the launch being on the 2nd September 2008 at about 11.00AM PDT (uncertain about the time though), which is 02.00AM UTC+8 on the 3rd of September here in Malaysia. For the love of all that is good let there be no traffic when Serge goes for it.

The Love Guru - Review

The Love Guru

First and foremost, this movie is probably one of the best movie which Mike Myers has ever starred in. Although his Austin Power movies were good, Serge did not like those but the Love Guru is something else. Serge would like to say if Myers continued to star in films such as this, Serge would be a fan of his.
