Standing Tall
By Serge Norguard. Filed in Outings, Personal |So you fallen, you have been beaten and bruised. You think that you cannot go on, you believe that your God or the spiritual force has given up on you. You even think that your own will has thrown up. You want to give up, your body tells you to give up.
Hell, Serge has seen it all. At about 2000hrs today, Serge attended a talk by Mark Inglis (pronounce een-gles). This motivational talk was at the same time to promote the upcoming premier of Everest:Beyond the Limit.
What’s so special about Mark Inglis? Mark Inglis, is the first double amputee to climb Everest. No mean feat even for able-bodied people out there. At 25,000 feet, your own body consumes its own muscle to produce fuel and heat to keep you alive. At 29,000 feet, take one step breathe in 15 times before you can take another for the air is that thin.
Another neat fact is that, when he and the other people climb Everest it wasn’t start at the bottom and go all the way to the top. It was start at the bottom, climb up, climb down, climb up and climb down. This is to get their body to become accustom to the weather.
In any case, like all motivational talks out there… there are some common factors.
1 - Dont Give Up
2 - Know your limits
3 - Take Risk
Well will be reading his book entitled Legs On Everest (ISBN 1-86941-870-0).
And to pimp Discovery Channel, go watch Everest : Beyond The Limit on the 22nd of May 10pm (applicable to those under the Discovery Channel Asia region).
