Blogger’s Lockdown

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has stated that those who spreads slander and untruth through the new medium known as weblogs will face the law. That or something to that matter which was the headline of today’s (2nd August) The Star.

Now then, Serge doesn’t spread unthruth but slander ! Come get him now >D. The goverment sudden need to lockdown, the basic human right of free will is apalling. We have every right to say what we want to say, how we want to say it and when we want to say it. BUT ….we also must realize that, we too must not go overboard with our words. The freedom of speech, in both the written and spoken format is a thin grey line between good and evil.

Serge does not agree or disagree with what the goverment is doing, as long as they catch those who threatens the state of the nation with their words or deeds using the internet. That is something that must be done. However, if the goverment somehow catches bloggers and places them into the pen because of something like…. “Oh i hate the Prime Minister”, now that cannot be allowed.

We bloggers are like journalist, make that we are journalist. We report to the audience, which is our readers. Therefore we have a responsibility to provide the thruth and sometimes the thruth hurts the big brother, but if this thruth is needed to be told…so be it.

The Malaysian Goverment in the Bill of Gurantee has stated the following

*Provide a world-class physical and information infrastructure.
*Allow unrestricted employment of local and foreign knowledge workers.
*Ensure freedom of ownership by exempting companies with MSC Malaysia Status from local ownership requirements.
*Give the freedom to source capital globally for MSC Malaysia infrastructure, and the right to borrow funds globally.
* Provide competitive financial incentives, including no income tax for up to 10 years or an investment tax allowance, and no duties on import of multimedia equipment.
*Become a regional leader in intellectual property protection and cyberlaws.
*Ensure no Internet censorship.
*Provide globally competitive telecommunications tariffs.
*Tender key MSC Malaysia infrastructure contracts to leading companies willing to use the MSC Malaysia as their regional hub.
*Provide an effective one-stop agency - Multimedia Development Corporation.

*Ensure no Internet censorship., that is what most of us bloggers want. We understand you the goverment, now it’s time for you to understand us. Help us to help you, so we can help each other. Do not let freedom be a word of yesterday, let it be the word that last forever and ever.
