Veneration
Monday, July 31st, 2006For some strange reason, days which are meant to be holy…somehow ends up being a day of making money. Such a shame really, we humans are just rat bastards. Serge would like to take an example, St. Anne’s feast day.
St Anne , according to the Catholic teaching has stated that she is the mother of the Virgin Mary, which means that she is the grandmother of Jesus Christ. Anyway at Bukit Mertajam at the Church of St. Anne, the feast day of St. Anne is celebrated at it’s full glory. You can see people from everywhere to celebrate this special day.
Now celebrating a feast day is a noble thing, for you acknowledge and show respect to a Saint. Pay respect, do not venerate them. If you want to venerate…venerate God and no one else.
How on earth did a feast day such as this become a money making event ? Seriously, if one has been to the feast day, you will see people opening up shop selling their wares. Candles for prayer, ok acceptable. A picture of Jesus Christ, acceptable. Food, toys and other non holy things being sold ?? WHAT THE HELL.
