CLUB DRUGS AND THEIR HARMFUL EFFECTS
Drugs that are commonly taken in night clubs, rave parties and bars are called club drugs. These drugs are colorless, odorless, and flavorless. This makes it very difficult for them to be detected. They are used to cause intoxication and bring sedative effects. They act within a vey short time. When mixed with alcohol these drugs can lead to harmful intoxication and can cause serious health complications. These drugs are mainly made in backstreet labs, and garages. They are also made in kitchens by mixing various chemicals and drugs. Some of the commonly used club drugs include Rohypnol, PCP, Ecstasy and Ketamine. There are various effects that result out of using club drugs. They cause anxiety, sweating, and euphoria. This is the reason they are much preferred by young people who are partying. Ketamine is used by veterinarians and it is an anesthetic. LSD has hallucinogenic properties which causes extrasensory perceptions.
The harmful effects that result from use of these drugs include coma, seizures, muslecrams and attacks. When it is mixed with alcohol or other drugs it can easily lead to death. When this drug is mixed with alcohol, it can cause lethargy and lead to mental confusion. Ryhypnol results to a feeling of drowsiness, slowed response and dizziness. It can lead to breathing difficulties, lethargy seizures and even death. Persons taking these drugs are taken advantage of and raped. This is because their capacity to resist is greatly diminished. Ketamine leads to impaired learning, confusion, memory loss, hallucination, and amnesia. LSD can lead to high blood pressure, loss of appetite, and increased heart rate. Its prolonged abuse can lead to frequent hallucinations and psychotic ideations.
Most of these drugs are manufactured under conditions that are very unhygienic. This means that chances of contracting other diseases are very high. The chemical that are used to make these drugs can cause a lot of toxicity. Drugs falling under this classification are illegal. They can cause very serious addiction and affects the health of the youths who abuse them. There is need for youths to be made aware of the harmful effects of these drugs. This is because they can be easily influenced to take them due to peer pressure. If you realize that somebody is addicted to these types of drugs, there is need for the person to be encouraged to seek professional help that will assist in kicking out the habit.
